OHIO REMAG PROGRAM

The Economics Behind a Quality Rebuilt Magnet

Purchasing agents often question the wisdom of having a magnet rebuilt:

  • Is it a prudent investment?

  • Will a rebuilt magnet perform as well as a new magnet?

The answer to both questions is, Definitely, especially if it has been put through the Ohio Magnetics Remag Program.

Not only is the performance of an Ohio rebuild virtually the equivalent of a new magnet, the economics makes it a wise investment. An Ohio rebuild averages between 25% and 60% of the cost of a new magnet.

Before you decide that a new magnet is your only option, consider an Ohio rebuild. Let us diagnose your magnet’s condition. We’ll give you an honest, straightforward answer on the feasibility and economy of a rebuild. And you can’t beat the price of an Ohio rebuild diagnosis – it’s free!

How to Begin

Arranging for a rebuild diagnosis is as simple as calling Ohio Magnetics or your Ohio Magnetics’ representative. We will discuss your present application and needs, and ask about any planned changes in your operating system in the event that an upgrade may be required. After the initial interview and analysis, we will supply you with special shipping tags, and then arrange to have your magnet shipped for inspection.

Your Preliminary Inspection

When your magnet is received for inspection, the Ohio Magnetics engineering staff prepares a detailed description of the unit, takes electrical readings, performs a thorough mechanical inspection, and begins photo documentation of the project. After the initial inspection is completed, a decision is made as to whether or not the magnet must be opened. As this time, a preliminary suggested course of action is made and estimates on the procedures are quoted.

Your Possible Courses of Action

Three basic course of action are possible:

  • Bake Out

  • Terminal Replacement

  • Teardown

1. Bake Out: Moisture inside the magnet may be the cause of malfunction. If this is the case, we will bake out the magnet and run an 8-hour heat cycle analysis. This simple, low-cost action may be all that is necessary to “save” the unit. Turnaround time: 3 to 7 days.

2. Terminal Replacement: The magnet may not even need a bake out. The problem may be a matter of damaged or under-performing terminals. If this is the cause, we will replace the leads and terminals and return the unit to you for a nominal charge. Turnaround time: 3 to 7 days.

3. Teardown: If opening your magnet is essential – and only upon your authorization – we will open the unit to evaluate the potential for a complete rebuild and its economic feasibility. A thorough, detailed engineering evaluation will be prepared that outlines all procedures to be taken and the extent of repairs needed to bring the unit back to original mechanical and electrical performance. Cost efficiency is our guide, and Ohio always re-uses as much of the original unit as possible to help reduce your costs. After the teardown is completed and the inspection is made, a written recommendation and detailed quotation is supplied for your review.

Note: If your old magnet is beyond repair, or if a rebuild would be a questionable action, we will tell you as soon in the inspection process as possible. In the event that you choose to replace the magnet with a new unit, your Ohio Magnetics representative will be happy to advise you on the best type of magnet for your operation, and can offer you an attractive incentive on a new Ohio Magnetics unit.

Your Quotation

Your Ohio Magnetics quotation is more than a bottom line rebuild cost figure. In addition to the quotation on rebuilding your magnet back to original manufacturing specifications – or better – your quote delivers details on the probable cause of the unit’s failure, and procedures on how to improve the magnet’s performance. If the original magnet design is outmoded for your current needs, we will offer suggestions for upgrades and quote on improvements and alternatives.
