Permanent Suspended Separator Magnets

pm_susp_mag1.jpg (189057 bytes)Powerful Stearns permanent magnets give you all of the tramp iron removal ability of electromagnet units, plus:

  • elimination of DC power costs;

  • elimination of coils, rectifiers, oil filling, wiring or switchgear maintenance;

  • guaranteed uptime through constant energizing; and

  • simple installation at sharply reduced costs.

Typical Applications

  • Purification of Product or Ingredient for Higher-Quality End Products (e.g., foundry sand, glass cullet, grain, food products and chemicals)

  • Protection of Processing Equipment (e.g., crushers, pulverizers, conveyor belts and screens)

  • Reclamation of Ferrous or Non-Ferrous Material (e.g., open hearth and blast furnace slag, incinerators and garbage plants)

  • Salvage of Valuable Items (e.g., tools, cutter bits and machinery parts)

Features

  • Deep, powerful magnetic field maximizes ferrous recovery

  • Available in widths from 16" to 60"

  • Easy to install, without modifying existing lines

  • In-line and cross-belt suspended separators allow automatic discharge of collected tramp iron into suitable receptacles

Proper Magnet Selection Ensures Satisfaction

Suspended Magnet Separator Application Form (Excel form)

The magnetic field configuration of suspended magnets, regardless of make, is deeper at the center than at the sides. Thus, a magnet narrower than the width of the belt can pull some tramp iron from the belt center but leaves little or no protection at the sides. In order to properly blanket the entire width of material being conveyed, it is generally desirable to use a magnet as wide as the conveyor belt.

Selection of the proper suspended magnet requires careful evaluation of all operating conditions and separation objectives. These factors include magnet mounting position, burden depth, bulk density of material being conveyed, belt speed, belt width, and the shape and size of tramp iron to be removed.

Combination Units Provide Extra Protection

A Stearns combination unit provides an extra measure of protection from tramp iron or increased product cleaning.

  • A typical double-pass system in a foundry sand cleaning system would incorporate a cross-belt separator (to provide the initial tramp iron removal) and a PM magnetic pulley at the head of the conveyor (to remove any remaining fine splatter or shot).

  • Another type of dual protection used in mining operations utilizes a parallel-mounted (in-line) separator or cross-belt separator and a high-sensitivity metal detector: the magnet would remove the steel and iron objects while the detector will detect the presence of damaging, non-magnetic metals such as manganese steel, stainless steel and brass.
